Understanding the benefit of home ownership is the key to your future. I started my real estate portfolio out of necessity as a single mom and bought a duplex to help pay my mortgage. Each paycheck, I invested parts of my pay into a remodel and learned how to do almost all aspects of remodeling — from labor to installs. That project gave me my start and has built up to owning 17 doors on 9 properties in 5 different states.
